Apart from ski slopes, Obergurgl also offers a varied range of alternative winter sports options. From mid-November to end-April, reliable snow conditions are guaranteed thanks to the altitude and winter holiday fun thus secured.
Winter fun in Obergurgl
Cross-country skiing: Sports fans among winter guests will hit top form in Obergurgl/Hochgurgl on no less than 12 km of cross-country ski trails. In Obergurgl you'll find a 3 km long practice trail, as well as a 7 km long regular trail. In addition, there is a 12 km high-altitude in Hochgurgl. Access to the cross-country ski trail is located right in front of Hotel Wiesental! The Skiing School Obergurgl offers cross-country lessons and alpine skiing classes.
Winter hiking: Stomping through the forest covered in fresh snow on snowshoes and enjoying the peacefulness – that's experiencing nature in its purest form! Hike through the romantic Ötztal landscape and delight in the wonderful views. The clear and fresh air is as invigorating as it is relaxing. The Skiing School Obergurgl offers guided snowshoe tours through the wintry terrain 2 x weekly. For winter hikers without snowshoes, Obergurgl has around 12 km of winter hiking trails beckoning to go on romantic walks.
Riding: Horse lovers can look forward to the modern riding hall, as this makes practice possible not only when there's no snow outside – horse-riding is fun here in any weather. The hall is designed to host horse shows in line with international guidelines. On a total of 800 m² there is enough space for all drills and obstacles such as oxer, vertical and cavaletto are available to practice show jumping.
Indoor Golf: Avid golfers can improve their swing in the 700 m² large Indoor-Golfpark. The new Indoor-Golf arena in Hochgurgel provides beginners as well as pros the opportunity to work on their swing even in winter. Thanks to the golf simulators, you can choose from 54 courses to try your luck on! Our golf pro is on hand to help beginners take their first steps. With our video analysis course you can optimally prepare for the coming summer season!
Tobogganing: Dash down the long slope from the Hochgurgl upper terminus Hochgurgl down to the Pill lower terminus on a toboggan – sure to make for plenty of fun and laughs! The 3 km long natural toboggan run has many curves making for even more fun and excitement. The toboggan run is open daily from 9:00 – 16:00. Night tobogganing is possible on Mondays and Thursdays 19:30 – 22:30. Make way!
Ice-skating: On the ice skating rink at Hotel Enzian in Obergurgl you can spin a few pirouettes or try some Bavarian curling to your heart's content. Couples and families alike will find plenty of variety when it comes to skiing and snowboarding here – spin a few laps to the music and enjoy the feeling of being light-footed. Those who prefer team sports can form two teams and play a game of Bavarian curling together!
Ski touring: On the roofs of the Ötztal Alps, ski tourers will find their very own alpine paradise. Experience the breathtaking nature away from the groomed slopes – enjoy the wonderful views and breathtaking deep powder snow slopes. There are levels of difficulty here to cater to everyone: Beginners get to know this world going on easy tours and pros can test their limits on extremely challenging routes. A special ski touring highlight is the Wildspitze – Tirol's highest peak at 3,768 m. With regard to ski touring the place to go is the Skiing School Obergurgl – they have guided tours 1-2 times a week in winter.
