SNOW MAKING

SNOW MAKING

Whether powdered snow or crunching fern with the sun ski run - the slopes in Obergurgl Hochgurgl offer pure pleasure on their 110 kilometers of slop. However, they are also secured by modern snowmaking devices.

Should Mother Hulda forget once to shake her bed, Obergurgl Hochgurgl is prepared in the best possible way. Since the 1999/2000 winter season, 90% of all slopes in Obergurgl Hochgurgl can be covered with artificial snow. This means that the “surest snow winter sports place in the Alps” affirmation is now also technically supported. Snowmaking is computer-controlled. Under suitable temperature and air humidity, the snowmaker starts automatically. Five weather stations in the area provide it with detailed information.

Air and UV illuminated, germinated drinking water is used for producing snow. This water is taken from a storage reservoir (10,000 m³) located in Gaisbergtal.
