From the light mountain hiking trail to the challenging high mountain route, you will find all alternatives near Obergurgl-Hochgurgl. The transnational railroad is particularly delightful in the neighboring Southern Tyrol. If you are interested in particularly special hikes, the well-informed leaders of our Obergurgl high mountain school may accompany you on one of the following routes

With natural history guidance through the 200 year-old Pinewood natural landmark, an excellent educational trail of the Obergurgl alpine research center. After passage the Rotmoos waterfall you will reach the beautiful instruction hut and visit the 6000 year-old Hochmoor in Rotmoostal.

SHELL HIKE

In the Gaisberg and Rotmoostal, along the glacier educational trail with lots of Mutsattels. The discovery places of Ötztal Almandin shells are a special point of attraction for mineral collectors. With some luck you may also find a beautiful piece, usually embedded in soft mica slate.

PICCARD HIKE

PICCARD HIKE

Over the large throats, beyond the landing strip of the stratospheric balloons of Professor August Piccard in 1931. After climbing to the Karlsruhe hut and the Schwärzenkamm you reach the big game house (2,900 m). The descent over the throats and the Ramol path with its singular mountain flora is particularly impressive. Stamp site for the glacier peak.

SMUGGLER HIKE OVER THE KING YOKE

"Secret border trespassage" on a former smuggler path into an idyllic south Tyrolese highland. After the bus travel to Hochgurgl, you walk easily by the King’s Valley to the Koenigsjoch with a breathtaking sight of the rugged mountains of the South Alps such as the Dolomites, Rosengarten and Langkofel. Return trip with the hike bus over the Timmelsjoch (passport required). Stamp site for the glacier peak.

HIGH-ALPINE PANORAMIC TOUR

Deep brook glacier – Vent | From the parking lot of the glacier area at the Sölden glacier, a deep brook leads to the hiking trail through wide combs and moraine backs, high above the Venter Valley down to the glacier village of Vent. The hike offers singular views into the world of the Ötztal and Stubaier Alps. Ascent over the glacier route and return trip from Vent in the hike bus.

SUMMIT TOUR TO ZIRMKOGL (3,280 m)

A 3000 meter experience for slightly advanced climbing enthusiast. The ascent over the sea-plate to the Schartl throats (2,932 m) is somewhat troublesome, while the moderate summit attack compensates the trouble with a magnificent sight, which reaches from the Ortler far into the south. Stamp site for the glacier peak.

GLACIER ROUTE

Over the Rotmoos to the Zwickauer hut (2,980 m). After the ascent to the Hohe Mut glacier altitude at 2,670 m, you walk up along the Mutsattel to the foothills of the Rotmoos glacier. Secured by a rope crew, you climb over the snow-white glacier up to the Rotmoos yoke (3,055 m), and exceed the border at the alpine divide to the Zwickauerhütte. After an good rest, the descent takes place by Pfelders in the rear Passeier Valley. Return trip in the hike bus over the Timmelsjoch.

SUMMIT CLIMB OF THE TOP MOUNTAIN STAR TO THE WURMKOGEL

The new summit climb leads from the Top Mountain Star and the safe route to the Wurmkogl (3,082 m). The climb is secured by the way troop of Ötztal tourism troop with ropes, bars, etc. Visitors to the Hochgurgl are offered a special 3000 meter experience with a magnificent sight. The climb from the Top Mountain Star to the Wurmkogl takes about 15 minutes.

HIKE TO THE ÖTZI PLACE OF DISCOVERY

The discovery of the frozen man on September 19, 1991 in the proximity of the Similaun glacier in the Oetztal Alps meant a huge advance for alpine archeology. Coincidence wanted that on the day that German mountain climbers Erika and Helmut Simon crossed the Tisenjoch and pushed to a 3,200 m height, they found the 5,300 year-old mummified corpse of a man.

Ötztal Trek:

The Ötztal in its highest regions experience - the new Ötztal Trek offers to all hikers and mountain climbers this fascinating possibility. Over 22 continuous stages and 15 variations, this superlative hike consists of approximately 30,000 ascent meters and 400 kilometers. It runs east of the Ötztal station over the Ötztal over Scharten, burrs and summits from hut to hut up to Obergurgl and Vent, and then leads west over the valley back after the Ötztal station. Certainly nobody must complete all stages. Each stage offers entrance and exit possibilities - one can experience and enjoy thus the Ötztal Trek in smaller portions.
