Summer resort - Obergurgl Sommer
Also in the summer, we are a true diamond of the Alps!
Health and "High altitude cure"
Optimal climate
Protected by the high mountain chains in the north and the south, only about half as much precipitation falls here over the year than in the Bavarian mountains falls here over the year. The duration of sunshine is higher even around 10% than in Bozen. The Meran basin affects the climate at the southern Ötztal alpine divide with moderate temperatures, so the timber line in Obergurgl Hochgurgl reaches up at 2,400 meters.
Low allergens & low pollen content
With its low irritant, high altitude air, Obergurgl Hochgurgl causes little problems to people with pollen allergies during the main blooming period. In addition, the air is too thin for the annoying house dust mites, which do not live long at this altitude. For many years, the Botanics Institute of the University of Innsbruck has evaluated the pollen flight in Obergurgl by means of pollen traps. The evaluations have proven that with a purposeful use of information and individual behavior, Obergurgl Hochgurgl can be recommended as a resort with low allergens for pollen allergic people - all in an optimal “health climate”.
Science proves: Mountain vacation provide health effects
The trends of Austrian high altitude studies show that the secret of the recreational value of an active mountain vacation lies in the mobilization and economization of forces in the human body. It has been scientifically proven that a hiking vacation in an average altitude of 1,500 – 2,500 meters has positive effects over typical illnesses caused by modern life such as high blood pressure, metabolic disturbances, excess weight and heart and circulatory ailments. The original landscape, flora, fauna and glacier world contribute to a positive overall experience at the mountain.
Alpine-medical station in the University of Obergurgl
The Institute for Sport Sciences at the University of Innsbruck is concerned with the investigation and stress of the human body and the aerobic efficiency by staying in the altitude. Sportspeople and sport associations can thus carry out their altitude training under medical control in Obergurgl. The new alpine-medical station offers high-quality devices such as bicycle ergometer, inhaled gas analysis, lactate analyzer and small photometer.
